Statement: Safer Tourism and Thomas Cook
The Safer Tourism Foundation is an independent charity borne out of a vision that holidays should be significantly safer for travellers. We partner with more than 20 travel brands, representing around 15 million holiday journeys, to ensure holidays are free from preventable illnesses, serious accidents, and death.
Thomas Cook took a leading role in creating the Safer Tourism Foundation with initial funding to establish the charity. The charity has since established regular income for the Foundation, following the launch of the Safer Tourism Pledge.
The Safer Tourism Foundation has benefitted hugely from the strategic support and industry insights of Thomas Cook’s CEO Peter Fankhauser, who is one of the charity’s volunteer Trustees, and we are grateful for his contribution to our work as well as the support and commitment of so many Thomas Cook employees, who have gone above and beyond to support the charity’s work. We share in their sadness this morning and wish them all well for the future.
What is important now is that those travellers affected by the collapse of Thomas Cook are able to enjoy what is left of their holidays before returning home safely. The Safer Tourism Foundation will continue its work with travel companies and others to help consumers have fantastic, incident free holidays.
